National Societies


British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR)

The BSIR is the main society representing interventional radiologists in the UK. They have many opportunities for medical students to get involved, including an essay competition as well as being on the trainees committee.


The Society of Radiologists in Training (SRT)

The SRT is a group run by radiology trainees specifically to promote radiology training and education in the UK. They run an annual conference, essay competition and have resources for juniors on their website.


The Royal College of Radiologists


The Royal College of Radiologists is the governing body for radiologists in the UK. They have lots of grants and opportunities available for students and trainees interested in both diagnostic and interventional radiology.

The British Institute of Radiology


The British Institute of Radiology is the international membership organisation running events within Radiology. Junior doctors and students can apply for the Young Professionals and Trainee (YPAT) committee.

Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE)

CIRSE is the main European society. They have massive medical student engagement campaign, and have a generous grant program that students can apply for. 

The Interventional Radiology Society of Australasia


IRSA (Interventional Radiology Society of Australasia) is an association of Interventional Radiologists from Australia and New Zealand


Society of Interventional Radiology, United States of America


SIR are the American society and have been a pioneer in the development of IR. They have a very active Residents, Fellows & Students (RFS) Section.


The Pan Arab Interventional Radiology Society


PAIRS is the main IR society for the Middle East. The society runs a large annual conference with many international faculty in attendance.


The Canadian Association for Interventional Radiology


CAIR are the national IR society for Canada. They also hold regular events for IR trainees/juniors. Additionally, an IR fellowship list is kept on their website.


The Indian Society of Vascular & Interventional Radiology


The ISVIR is the main society representing interventional radiology in India. They run an annual conference.

UK Neuro-interventional Group (UKNG)

The UK Neurointerventional Group is the main society representing neurointerventionalists. 

Global Embolization Symposium & Technologies (GEST)

GEST is a global society aimed at embolisation techniques. They run an annual conference and provide high quality education on embolisation.

Society of Interventional Oncology, USA (SIO)

SIO is the main interventional oncology society. They run an annual conference on interventional oncology, and have student/trainee grants.

Society for Pediatric Interventional Radiology (SPIR)

SPIR is the major society representing paediatric interventional radiology around the world. Their website contains a fellowship list.
