Women in IR
Interventional Radiology, like many other surgical specialties, has historically been a male-dominated field. Despite the increase in female medical students, the under-representation of women in IR remains a problem today. This creates a huge problem for recruitment, and needs to change in order to ensure the longevity of our specialty.
BSIR Women in IR
The BSIR Women in IR group was formed to find out the reasons for the gender gap in IR and to encourage women to enter the specialty. The main concerns were about working hours and achieving a work-life balance, issues with radiation and the presence of a male-dominated environment.
